The pictorial index for the CD-ROM Your voyage of discovery starts with a choice of one of thirteen interactive locations to visit. These locations are all situated within a five-mile radius of Keswick. At each location, there is a lovely view for you to enjoy and explore and many fascinating facts to be discovered. Every location has an associated near-virtual circular walk, between five to nine miles in extent. Some of the walks can be shortened if so desired. The walks were chosen to be interesting and varied and every walk has a summary, a detailed description, hypertext links, images, sounds, one to seven interactive viewpoints and a map with interactive features.

The viewpoints enable you to identify the features displayed, including mountains, fells, large crags, valleys, woods, rivers, lakes and islands, tarns, villages, houses of distinction, bridges and roads. We have walked many of the routes a number of times so the images and sounds you see and hear encompass the different seasons.

One of the specialy drawn maps used in the CD-ROM We strongly recommend that you take an appropriate Ordnance Survey map with you when following the walks. We used Ordnance Survey Outdoor Leisure 4: The English Lakes, North Western area and Ordnance Survey Outdoor Leisure 5: The English Lakes, North Eastern area. Also, please ensure that you are adequately equipped, especially when walking in the upland areas. The Northern Lake District mountains and fells, although not on the scale of the Himalayas, should be treated with respect and care, especially in adverse weather conditions.

We have tried to make sure all the information is correct at the time of producing this CD-ROM but please bear in mind that the Lake District is a dynamic place with a living landscape so changes do occur. Thus, trees fall down or are removed, stiles become gates, paths are improved or re-routed, buildings and roads are renamed and new attractions created and old ones moved! However, overall the changes to the landscape are minor and the Lake District remains a place of outstanding beauty.
